Claude Diebolt, Thierry Aimar, Francis Bismans
- Springer

- 9783319243252
This book analyzes the development of economic cycles in the run of history. The focus is on the development of cycle theory, with maximum emphasis upon ideas. Chapter 1 delivers an overview of the debate about cycles before the 1970s. Chapter 2 completes this survey by presenting the main empirical investigations since that time. Finally, Chapters 3 and 4 illustrate the discourse, by presenting, in the tradition of Burns and Mitchell, original case studies on France, South Africa, and Germany.

New Trends in Macroeconomics
Claude Diebolt, Catherine Kyrtsou
- Springer
- 21 Novembre 2005
- 9783540285564
That macroeconomic theory and macroeconometrics are, in the near future and more than ever, indispensable tools in the study of economics is no longer a very cont- versial statement. It is now generally agreed that economic theory, combined with historical, statistical and mathematical methods are necessary at the theoretical level, to formulate problems precisely, to draw conclusions from postulates and to gain - sight into workings of complicated processes, and at the applied level, to measure variables, to estimate parameters and to organise the elaborate calculations involved in reaching empirical results. This book is an illustration of the Editors belief in this principle. It offers new insights in macroeconomic analysis. It deals with both theory and empirical results related to the dynamics within the structure of macroeconomic variables as well as between them. More precisely?ve axes are distinguished. There are theoretical and applied works with developments on (1) mechanisms of economic dynamics, (2) structures of macroeconomic variables, and (3) relationships between macroeconomic time series. The book also presents methodologies where (4) linear testing is improved and (5) new non-linear techniques are applied. Turning to the individual contributions now. Benassy' ´ s chapter studies the propagation of macroeconomic shocks using a - namic model with wage and price staggering. He?nds evidence in favour of a p- sistent response of both output and in?ation to monetary shocks.

Understanding Demographic Transitions
Claude Diebolt, Faustine Perrin
- Springer
- 24 Octobre 2016
- 9783319446516
This book studies the process of demographic transition which has played a key role in the economic development of Western countries. The special focus is on France, which constitutes the first clear case of fertility decline in Europe. The book analyzes the reasons behind this phenomenon by examining the evolution of demographic variables in France over the past two hundred years. To better understand the reasons of the changing patterns of demographic behavior, the authors investigate the development of the female labor force, study educational investments, and explore the evolution of gender roles and relations.

Claude Diebolt, Ralph Hippe
- Springer
- 7 Janvier 2022
- 9783030908584
Human capital is of utmost importance for the future of our knowledge economies and societies. However, it is unequally distributed in Europe, contributing to marked spatial patterns of economic prosperity within and across countries. In many cases, these patterns have a long history. To understand them better, it requires to go back in time, when mass schooling was starting to become a reality across Europe. Taking a long-run perspective over more than 150 years, this book shows the development and the distribution of human capital in the regions of Europe and its connections with the economy. It provides insights into recent research findings in this area, including theoretical advances and the use of new empirical data.
