L'ensemble de ces trois articles écrits à la fin de sa vie permet d'apercevoir tout à la fois la continuité du propos de Freud et les modifications profondes qu'il a introduites à l'égard des premières formulations de la psychanalyse. Ainsi au temps de la découverte de l'inconscient et de son élaboration, succède celui de la prise en compte de ses conséquences qu'elles soient d'ordre clinique ou d'ordre théorique. Des questions qui ne pouvaient pas être anticipées apparaissent : si une psychanalyse est possible et démontre ses effets, en quoi peut consister sa fin ? Sur quels critères la fonder ? Peut-on en attendre une unité, voire une harmonie du sujet avec lui-même ? Mais aussi : à quelles conditions une telle fin est-elle pensable ? Toutes ces questions conduisent Freud à examiner la valeur des résultats produits par la psychanalyse.
Les trois écrits de ce livre ont été rédigés à Vienne, puis à Londres, entre 1937 et 1938. Ils constituent l'ultime enseignement de Freud qui y jette ses dernières pensées au sujet de la fin de l'analyse. La traduction s'accompagne du texte original allemand, permettant au lecteur de se reporter aux concepts fondamentaux, tels que Freud lui-même les formule. Elle prend pour guide de lecture l'oeuvre de Lacan, et s'efforce de faire entendre en français le poids du signifiant allemand, au point parfois de surprendre.
Malaise dans la civilisation (1931) et Considération actuelle sur la guerre et la mort (1915), les deux textes présentés ici dans leur version originale et dans une nouvelle traduction française, nous font découvrir un Freud « politique », qui réfléchit sur la guerre et cherche à intégrer ces réflexions dans une recherche plus spécifiquement psychanalytique sur les causes permanentes des conflits en général.
Dans le texte de 1915, Freud déplore naturellement la guerre en en montrant les effets dévastateurs sur la culture en général, mais il y voit aussi la possibilité d'exprimer, passant outre les effets de censure, la violence « primitive » des pulsions, qu'il est vain de vouloir constamment réprimer.
En 1931, Malaise dans la civilisation marque l'intégration à la théorie freudienne de la notion de pulsion de mort, mise au jour par la psychanalyste russe Sabina Spielrein. Si la position qu'adopte Freud dans ce texte à l'égard de la guerre imminente peut sembler fataliste, ce serait le trahir que de réduire son attitude à la résignation. Freud est convaincu que le consentement à la guerre n'est pas simplement le fait de ceux qui vont se rendre coupables de la déclencher, mais qu'il a des racines plus profondes et qu'il exerce ainsi de manière très insidieuse sa séduction sur de très vastes cercles. Il comprend aussi très vite ce que sera l'« esprit de Munich », dont il constate les prodromes dans les atermoiements de la SDN.
Ces deux textes essentiels sont suivis d'une nouvelle traduction de la lettre à Albert Einstein datée de 1933, intitulée Pourquoi la guerre ?
Dans la construction historique du problème social que constitue la violence juvénile, le rôle de l'expertise est primordial. Protecting children from sexual violence - A comprehensive approach is a collection of highly readable expert papers for both child professionals and the general public. It is divided into five parts, presenting a European overview and covering the existing legal frameworks; abuse prevention and reporting; rehabilitation and social reintegration of victims; sexual violence on the Internet; and public and private partnerships against abuse. It also sheds light on the little-known problem of children who are sexually abusing other children.
In addition to providing thorough information on the many facets of this complex subject, this publication also highlights new concepts, facts and recommendations. Foremost is the significant lack of data on the prevalence and nature of sexual violence in Europe, underscoring the need for co-ordinated pan-European research and information gathering, which are vital to effective policy making and programme design.
